This week’s post starts off heavy on the technology side of things. As I have mentioned before I am a big fan of methods in neuroscience. In particular I’m a huge sucker for all things optogenetics related…
Optogenetics gives us the ability to control behavior in animals using lasers!! See below for two examples.
Optogenetics turned the cat above into spiderman and gave the one below some new dance moves.
Of course talking about cool neurotechnology inevitably leads to Ed Boyden; the two go together like peanut butter and jelly. These first couple of papers were brought to my attention via links shared from Dr. Boyden’s tweets.

- Now this is a white paper/ report from a very cool course offered at Stanford (CS379C: Computational Models of the Neocortex) by Thomas Dean. I highly reccomend checking out the course website and looking at the discussions, projects, and readings! Of course the paper itself looks wonderful!
